Vacation

No, sadly I'm not heading to the beach
(although that sure sounds good right about now!)
~
Just a heads up that I'll be closing the shop on Friday, May 27 while I do some work getting it stocked with new inventory (!) and ready for an awesome giveaway week I'll be participating in over here. So if there's something you just can't live without, now is the time to head on over and start shopping!

Teacher Gifts

Yesterday marked Claire's last day of preschool. I've been in total denial that my baby has finished her first year of preschool and had to snap myself back into reality long enough to say goodbye to her teachers this week. (sniff, sniff!) All year long her teachers have been telling us what a special group this class was, and the proof came when the teachers themselves were tearing up saying goodbye to the kids.
~
Being our first time in the whole end-of-year-teacher-gift-purchasing game, I wasn't sure what to buy, but knew I wanted to get them something I thought they would actually enjoy receiving, (and not something covered in apples or ABC's!)
~
Here's what I came up with : Watercolor & Drip Dye scarves from GAP
I've noticed throughout the year that both teachers are scarf ladies!
Flutter By stationary set by Donovan's on Etsy
purchased while at the Renegade Craft Fair in Chicago back in Decemberthe gifts were finished off with these cards from Gold Teeth Brooklyn
purchased from the Renegade store in Chicago
~
Claire's teachers were amazing, and I'm aware that no gift will ever thank them enough for making our first school experience such a positive one, but here's hoping these gifts at least gave them a hint of our appreciation!

Fresh Start Sunday

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
~
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above

Hired Help

My mother in law was kind enough to volunteer to help me with the ruffle-making mayhem over here, yay! It's been a very productive week, and having someone on board now to help is awesome!
~
What you may not know about these ruffle pillows it that they're not exactly the speediest project ever. Handmade definitely takes time...and unique, one of a kind handmade takes a lot of time! So worth it though for sure.
~
I just delivered the first batch of fabric to my mother in law,
all cut and ready to be made into ruffles!
thanks Mary, I really appreciate the help!

Good Question...

With all the talk about ruffle pillows around here, I've had a handful of people contact me directly wondering if the pillows will be available in my Etsy shop, and the answer is....My goal is to have them in the shop early June while still keeping Rebel.Reclaimed sufficiently stocked for all of our Grand Rapids peeps. So that explains the major production overdrive lately! I'll be sure to let you awesome blog-readers know as soon as they come available, and thanks to everyone for your encouragement with this new product and your support, I really appreciate it!

Monday's 10 Things

Here's what I'm most thankful for, right now!
~
1. My Grandma, whose life we were able to celebrate this past week.
2. A very nice funeral service and time spent with family.
3. Having my brother Steven home from the Navy,
it had been over a year since we had seen him last!
4. A spontaneous date night on Saturday, courtesy of Eric's planning and my in-laws willingness to take Claire for the evening.
5. Reaching 15 weeks into this pregnancy, and feeling good!
6. Another doctor's appointment this week, I can't wait to hear that little heart chugging along!
7. Claire's teachers, they've been so amazing this year, and I'm definitely not ready to say goodbye to them next week.
8. The Chris Tomlin station on Pandora Radio, I've got it on in both my kitchen and my craft room all.day.long.
9. Having a craft room with plenty of space for me to spread out my supplies
(and a door that I can close when the room gets crazy messy!)
10. A very productive week so far, two Monday items got crossed off my list already on Sunday! (maybe that's the difference of no longer feeling the need to nap every day?!?) Let's hope it keeps up!
~
What are you most thankful for today?

New Pillows @ Rebel (Ready, Set, GO!)

**A small correction to my last pillow post**
the two pillows didn't just sell before I had a chance to post about them,
they sold before they even made it to the shop floor!
One was purchased by someone who saw me walking in with them,
and one was sold over the phone by someone who had seen pictures of my pillows online.
CRAZY!
~
With that being said, four new pillows made their way to Rebel today! Three pillows have ivory ruffles on a natural background,
and one pillow was made with this fab
navy and ivory floral linen with a natural background.so be sure to get down to Rebel when they open tomorrow,
these pillows aren't going to last long!

Allegan Antiques Market

(oops, this post is almost two weeks late!)

My mom and I headed to the Allegan Antiques Market for the first market of the year.
A major draw being that Rebel.Reclaimed was going to be there!
~
At this time last year, Eric & I had just finished renovating our summer place and needed furniture to fill it, so the market came in very handy. This year neither my mom nor I had any major agenda which actually made it really enjoyable, we could just wander and look at anything that caught our attention.
~
Here's what I walked away with :lots of vintage buttons purchased from a cute elderly couple.
some of the large buttons have already been used on ruffle pillows!three rusty stars (for $2 each)
I'm already wishing I had bought more!
three small blue pharmacy jars to use as bud vases during
our
annual Coast Guard partya small pedestal table to go next to a chair in the corner of my craft room,
it may or may not stay white, I'm not sure yet
~
Lucky for me, Dann from Rebel snapped a picture of one of my pillows in action,
it had sold by the time I arrived!
see his entire Allegan blog post here

~
More ruffle-filled pillows are already being made and will be at Rebel by the weekend. You've gotta be quick people, these things sell FAST!

Mother's Day

(Here's the post I had planned for Mother's Day,
see my unplanned post here)my & my girl, love her!
~
This Mother's Day was extra special as I was celebrating not only being a mumma to my Claire,
but also to a new addition to our family that we're expecting in November! We couldn't be happier to be adding to our family, and are thoroughly enjoying watching a three year old wrap her brain around pregnancy and childbirth (her questions and observations are hilarious!)
~
Here are my thoughts on this pregnancy so far :

1. I've been nauseous and tired and many days feel like I have the toughest boss on Earth because I'm pretty certain the three year old doesn't care that mumma feels like junk. Thankfully, I'm 14 weeks now and can see the light at the end of the early-pregnancy tunnel coming.

2. Being newly pregnant during Easter candy season was bad. Very very bad.

3. I've seriously considered writing "take nap" on my daily to do list to guarantee myself the satisfaction of crossing off at least one item every day.

4. We've heard the baby's heartbeat two times now, by far the best sound on Earth.
I love this little one already!

Mother's Day : Unplanned Post

Claire & her Great-Grandma, May 2011

I had a Mother's Day post planned for today, but our day didn't start out exactly as planned. Our phone rang at 7:15 in the morning, and it was my mom calling to let us know that my Grandma had passed away during the night. Her passing wasn't totally unexpected, but hearing the news still hits hard.
~
We left for church at 8:00 which didn't leave a whole lot of time for the news to sink in right away. At the end of our church service today, we sang the song Solid Rock and the lyrics seemed so appropriate. I can only imagine the amazing Mother's Day my Grandma had, standing before the throne and finally meeting her creator.
~
Happy Mother's Day, Grandma!

Solid Rock
~
My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
~
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.
~
When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.
~
His oath, His covenant, His blood
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.
~
When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.
