Favorite Picture of the Week

Okay, so I download about a gazillion pictures of my child every week, why don't Eric & I have any pictures of us?!?
~
Yes, it's a self-take, but it'll do!

Live Simply

I've ordered a handful of prints from Studio Mela on Etsy, and I've just found another that I might have to add to my collection.

Back to School Feast

On the night of Claire's first day of preschool, we had a Back to School Feast. I love having established family traditions, and am pretty confident that we just created a new one!
~
here's some details:an empty can
+ a 72 pack of colored pencils
+ hot glue
+ yellow mums
= one very colorful centerpiece!~
and, a cake that was intended to look like this, but came out looking like an Easter egg instead (at least it was covered in rainbow sprinkles!)~
and finally, school-themed place settings and pink vintage dishes~
but the best part of all???
seeing how utterly proud of herself our big preschooler was!

Minty Keen on MLive

Here's an article published on MLive on Saturday.

New downtown Grand Rapids store Minty Keen offers eclectic mix of kitchy antiques, crafts

GRAND RAPIDS -- Something old, something new, something to take home with you.

That's the idea behind Angie Seabert's new store, Minty Keen, the latest addition to downtown's retail scene.

The store opened this week inside a Ledyard Building storefront at 125 Ottawa Ave. NW Suite 170, which was most recently home to A Modern Event. That store moved to 648 Monroe Ave. NW.

Minty Keen offers an eclectic mix of kitchy antiques, crafts from local artisans and other gift items.

"A lot of it actually came from working downtown at Eastern Floral," Seabert said, explaining the concept for the store. "I really saw a need for things that were geared toward people visiting the city. A lot of them don't have cars. They're kind of stuck downtown and there's only a few places to shop."

Seabert, who sports horn-rimmed glasses and a look that's a throwback to the 1940s or '50s, bills the store as an eco-friendly shop since most of the crafts use recycled materials while the vintage goods provide a chance to reuse high-style items from years gone by.

"For me, it's really more for fun," she said. "I'm not expecting to get rich over this. I just saw a need and I figured if it works out well, great. At some point, it would be great to have this be our family business and have it go that way."

For now it's a one-woman show. Seabert said she hopes to host knitting and crafting groups and spend slower moments working on her own sewing projects. Don't be surprised to see her two kids playing Legos or trains in the shop's retro play area.

Store hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays though Thursdays and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays.

Potato Soup

Fall is suddenly in the air,
and it has me craving warm, savory foods.
Tonight's dinner : Potato Soup
~
Ingredients:
10 large potatoes, peeled and cubed
6 carrots, chopped
10 stalks celery, chopped
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic
salt & pepper to taste
1 tablespoon parsley flakes
chicken broth
8 ounces cream cheese
6 slices Velveeta cheese
1/4 cup margarine
~
Directions:
Put potatoes, carrots, celery, onion, garlic, salt, pepper and parsley flakes in kettle or crock pot. Add chicken broth and water to cover vegetables. Cook until vegetables are tender. Add cream cheese, Velveeta, and margarine. Combine/melt all ingredients. At this point, you can either serve as a chunky veggie and potato soup, or you can cream all ingredients in a food processor. Either way is yummy!

Enjoy!

BIG News!

I've been sitting on some pretty exciting Cora Anne news for about a week now, and before I completely burst, I'm sharing it with you!
~
Last week, I received an email from a girl named Angie who is opening a new shop in downtown Grand Rapids called Minty Keen, and she wanted my wreaths for her shop! Woo hoo! (this is the part where I'm jumping up and down, and Eric gives me a good 'ole pat on the tush...too much info?!?)
~
I met with Angie on Friday, snooped around her adorable shop, and left a whole collection of Cora Anne goodies with her!
